The shining is a brilliantly eerie film that I enjoyed from start to finish. With a clear escalation of events that still allows you to develop attachment to characters and get to know them in their roles. The leads were all perfectly chosen for their roles, the depth in their characters would nit exist without the casting choices, especially with the roles of Jack and Danny, as Jack’s progression could only be properly portrayed by the odd ball that is Jack Nicholson, and that signature smile. Danny as well, was an excellent surprise of talent from the incredibly young actor, carrying out such a large role for his age is very impressive. The direction of the film as well was brilliant, each camera movement, the framing of shots, and the dynamics of the movie were executed amazingly by Stanley Kubrick. 5/5 @Rook of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board The Shining is a “modern classic” of a horror novel- one of Stephen King’s most iconic and well known stories (with adaptational references firmly cemented in our pop culture), and it is not an undeserved title. I’m fairly new on the horror scene, but I found it engagingly creepy— and fun to read camping in the woods at night. The story revolves around the Torrance family (Jack, Wendy, and young son Danny) staying over the closed winter months at the isolated Overlook Hotel, where recovering alcoholic Jack has gotten a job as the winter caretaker to keep the family afloat. However, the hotel’s colourful past has given it a dark, evil soul of its own, and five year old Danny’s special powers— known to him as The Shining— may be the only key to getting them out alive. The book is intriguing and chilling, and you can only watch with fascinated, enthralled horror as the hotel’s evil is revealed. 4/5. @greencrushed of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library The Shining DVD was one of the best thrillers I have ever seen. Typically, I do not like or enjoy scary or thrilling movies, but this psychological thriller was very interesting and kept me on my toes for the entire duration of the film. I watched this film with my sister, and we both agreed that it was scarier than most of the horror and thriller movies out there today! It was crazy to see how someone’s isolation from the world around them leads to their own insanity, and I can’t believe how well the acting was in the film! I loved it, and would certainly watch it again! Rating: 5/5 @Montgomery of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library The Shining, I give this movie a 5 out of five. This movie is the horror movie of all horror movies it is so good and an absolute classic. I find that this is one of Stephen King's greatest creations of all time and I love it. This movie will always give me a chill down my spine even if I've watched it three times in a row it is so good. Jack Nicholson did an amazing job playing Jack, he took it over the top and plays him perfectly. Shelley Duvall did a stunning performance playing Wendy. She fits this character to the point where every time I imagine Wendy, I imagine her. This movie is so good at showing another type of horror that isn't all about jump scares but also the creepy style of the psychological and how crazy people are so scary. I am obsessed with every minute and I can't even choose my favorite moment, because it is so good. This movie hits every part of creepy and scary and I would watch this movie repeatedly without getting bored. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a creepy movie because it is amazing. I hope you like it just as I did. @Icecream of The Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
