The Visual Handbook of Building and Remodeling

a Comprehensive Guide to Choosing the Right Materials and Systems for Every Part of Your Home
Apr 12, 2017HouseOfKirby rated this title 5 out of 5 stars
For unknown reasons, this book was rated 3 1/2 stars. It's worthy of a full 5-stars. It gets straight to the point and practically explains how to build a home by yourself, with every little detail covered, well-illustrated for easy understanding, and full of handy reference charts. The only drawback is that it hasn't been updated since its last edition -- 3rd, published in 2009 -- which is significantly dated in relationship to building codes (references to 2006 IRC), and it lacks any reference to light-gauge steel stud construction. With important changes in the International Energy Efficiency Code since this book was published, there are many updates this book could use. It is not Architectural Graphic Standards, however, it is an excellent reference book if you want to build or remodel a home or just have a handy reference book for residential design.
