A pre-DIRTY HARRY film by the great Don Siegel. I greatly enjoyed MADIGAN. Plenty of shots of '68 New York City. Society still intact. No references to race riots, and only the smallest of glances toward the Hippie revolution convulsing the body politic. For Richard Widmark and James Whitmore fans, an absolute must-see. Good stuff from Henry Fonda and Harry Guardino too. An interesting discussion about morality takes place in this film. Fonda, the self-righteous, loner, police commissioner carries on an affair with a beautiful young married socialite, while the street-tough detective on the take, Widmark, scrambles to keep his spoiled wife pleased. Check out the movie. You won't be disappointed.
