Good: Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins (2008) *** 114 min. starring Martin Lawrence, Margaret Avery, James Earl Jones – Welcome to the Jenkins family; a fun, down to earth, family who are warm and welcoming but who are also going through all the pains and sufferings that most of us share. Roscoe (Martin Lawrence) left home to become a big-shot television personality to the disappointment of his father. Roscoe is also engaged to a spoiled vegan, hooked-on perma-diet princess, who does not see eye to eye with the meat and sugar-loving, normal folk - the Jenkins. When Roscoe comes home with his fiancé, that’s when the fun and drama takes place. Roscoe meets up with his childhood rival played by Cedric the Entertainer and the rivalry continues. I liked this film from the get-go; its fun, dialogue is witty, characters are over the top for some and very real with others; with great messages about the love of family and what really is important in life. This is one of Martin Lawrence’s best.
