In this book, there is a boy called Omri who is celebrating his birthday. He received from his friend Patrick a plastic Indian figure and an old cupboard from his two older brothers. His mom gives him a box of keys for him to try and he chooses one with a red ribbon that belonged to his grandma. He accidentally discovers the magical powers of the cupboard when the key locks it. Omri tells his friend Patrick reluctantly and then a plastic cowboy and horse get brought to life. The excitement picks up when both the tiny people are brought to school. Omri and Patrick get in trouble when they are constantly talking about their secret people. My favourite part was when the Indian talks to Omri with broken English, trying to tell him what to do.
