Meandering, confusing story loaded with too many, mainly forgettable characters. The opening — the main characters (I forget how many) — simply riding across a rolling field already began to bore me. I had a little hope once they rob the first bank — an action scene that’s competent but nothing more than that — but then the film just wanders around with some too Peckinpah-like violent scenes. (And, in my kind, Peckinpah is not so great, but this film doesn’t transmute Peckinpah‘s approach into anything better.) In the end, nothing really adds up. I went into the film expecting a revisionary Western, but found myself waiting for it to end. Even the final robbery bores because it seems set up merely to have certain set shots — man being dragged by horse, man falling off roof, horses jumping through windows, etc. The finale tries to be artsy though it felt as the director just wanted to slap something in there to give it meaning.
