Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy was one of the top 10 banned books from 2000-2010. If you're a fan of Harry Potter or other teen fantasy, celebrate Banned Books Week by reading this epic tale of good vs. evil. "The Golden Compass" begins as Teenager Lyra, who lives in very ordinary Oxford, England, is swept up into an extraordinary world of steampunk airships, sentient animals, and a secret conspiracy that spans all of creation. As Lyra gets dragged into the inter-dimensional conflict, she begins to realize that her world is not what she thought it was. This book was challenged for its religious and sexual content, all of which is thoughtfully explored as Lyra struggles to figure out what in life is worth fighting for. I highly recommend this series to anyone from mid teens to adults.
