I read a lot of detective novels. But this is the first one where I did more than just dislike the detective. I *despised* Lucas Davenport, a rich good looking playboy, constantly wired with Viagra, who seduces his New York partner and ruins her marriage while turning his back on his girlfriend, the mother of his baby. Excellent action in the story is undercut by the constant vibrations of Davenport's uncontrollable adolescent sexual urges. I don't mind a little steam in stories, but I'm no fan of swamp mud.
Lucas Davenport #2 finds Davenport investigating a series of crimes all committed with a Native American ceremonial knife. Although the crimes are spread across the country, all signs point back to the Minnesota Native American community and a killer who calls himself Shadow Love.
another good book in the Lucas Davenport series
Didn't like it much. I have yet to figure out why Sandford is such a popular writer
