This is the one and only parenting book I read while I was pregnant with my son. I have lived this book, and I can say that my now almost 8 year old son is the most well behaved eight year old I know. I am always being told, "He is so polite!" BUT...what is more important than that, people always are also commenting, "There is a lot of respect between you two!" He doesn't just "obey" me, we have a fantastic relationship built on mutual respect. He recognizes I am the Mother (I don't try and be "friends" with him), but he also sees me as his friend (NOT like "buddy buddy", but someone he trusts, can talk to, can confide in, etc.). I see him as my son and expect him to treat me appropriately, but I also see him as a human with important feelings and ideas that need to be heard, validated and respected. I recommend this book to ANYONE, new parent, or "old" ;)
