This was a good, gentle covering of a despicable point in our history; it has some relevant parallels with the current Syrian refugee crisis and how we treat "others" based on fear that are accessible to young children. The story was a little sentimental for me, but had good take aways and spurred some interesting discussion for my early elementary kiddo. I thought the artwork was hauntingly lovely and very appropriate; it showed the bleakness and gravity of the situation without being overly frightening for a sensitive audience.
