I loved the Goosebumps series of books as a child. I read easily five or six dozen of the originals that came out every month or so in the nineties. There weren't many I didn't read, but this volume slipped past me. Now, as a grown woman, it was definitely weird to go back and read one of them. My husband claimed this book terrified him as a young boy, so I decided to indulge myself and see what was so scary. Well, I must have become jaded in my old age because it didn't scare me sadly, but I still appreciate the strength of the writing that R.L. Stine imbues in his children's literature. He doesn't muck about, which I appreciated then, of course, and still admire now. Sure, I'm not as freaked out by those bumps in the night like I used to be, but the memories of what those books meant to me still make Goosebumps great, especially to the appropriate reading demographic. For anyone in elementary school, I still recommend this frighteningly good series.
