I love Sandra Brown. I liked the ending of the story. I hated Neil's character. I was mad for a large part of the story, when I put the book down, I still felt that "mad", didn't like that. Crawford's boss should have talked to Neil's boss, actually, Neil's boss should have talked to Neil without the head of the Texas Rangers having to tell him to get his Police Officer's head out of his butt. I know that would have changed the story, but I read for enjoyment and anticipation, this book didn't give fulfill.
I really like this author but wasn't loving this book. I didn't feel connected to the characters. I finished the book but wouldn't say it's one of her best.
This novel works fairly well as a fast paced action thriller, but the antagonist's reasons for going after Texas Ranger Crawford Hunt weren't believable for me. The romance between Crawford Hunt and Judge Holly Spencer lacks emotional depth and build-up. The story is more successful as an action thriller than a romance, but honestly does neither genre justice.
Very disappointed in this new book. I usually enjoy the characters and the plot in Sandra Brown's books but this one just felt like she wrote it because she had to. I kept waiting for the plot to improve and gave up half way through which is a first for me with one of her books. None of the characters came to life and it certainly wasn't a page turner. I found I was speed reading hoping the plot would get better.
Enjoyed this thriller - fast paced. The main character was a mixture of hard and soft. He was a Texas Range with a reputation of doing things the hard way, while fighting for the custody of his young daughter. A wild ride that kept the pages turning as you wanted to find out the ending of this complex story. Great Read.
