This Caldecott winner was not my favorite, but it is very original in its use of creating another language to tell the story.

This is a cleverly-written book that appeals to a variety of ages. I read it out loud to the family, and it incited lots of giggling. I read it out loud to a middle-grade student that I am tutoring, and we talked about using context clues to deduce the meanings of unfamiliar words (the book made this conversation fun). The illustrations are enchanting, and I noticed new details each time I re-read the book.

The illustrations are delightful and younger children will likely have fun puzzling out the insect language.

Unique create your own story book.
I read with our 4 year old son and we got a laugh when we were sure we had worked out what words meant and I think my son enjoyed being a part of insects conversations.
Great for imagination, explaining the use of different languages and how communication varies even between animals. Something a little different from a wordless book.

An innovative picture book that explores language and storytelling. Readers are left to decipher Ellis' made-up language. An incredibly unique, inviting, and clever picture book. Carson Ellis never disappoints.

Super creative with illustrations to match, this picture book explores language with the help of some very industrious bugs!

Gorgeous illustrations that kids will sure to pour over, since all of the text is in "bug language".

Du Iz Tak? I'll tell you du tak iz. It's a totally cool book in which the reader enters a bug world where everyone speaks "bug". But, thanks to fabulous illustrations, it is possible - and fun - to figure out the story and understand a new language.

This book is beautifully illustrated and you will probably want to look through it a few times to find the hidden things you missed. It's fun to read the made up language and spot the differences from one page to the next.

Both my two year old and seven year old are enchanted with the imagined language of this book and trying to decipher the story. The illustrations are stunning.
