Water Under the Bridge
Poems From the Elk Rapids Elders ProjectBook - 2011
Water Under the Bridge is a beautiful blend of oral history, storytelling and poetry from the Elders Project of Elk Rapids. Editor-poet-columnist Terry Wooten, Elk Rapids student interviewers and elders offer fascinating glimpses into life during the 1900s. Their poetry vignettes, collected and written over four years, recall everything from a grandfather who survived the Great Chicago Fire, oxen grazing in an Elk Rapids park and farm life around Elk and Torch lakes to WPA clothes during the Great Depression, going off to war, love, marriage and the rescue of a pair of horses that broke through the ice on Elk Lake.
