North Dakota, 1999. Landreaux Iron accidentally shoots and kills five-year-old Dusty Ravich, the son of his neighbors. The two families have always been close; Dusty was best friends with Landreaux's son LaRose. Horrified, Landreaux turns to tradition--prayer in an Ojibwe sweat lodge--for guidance, and finds a way forward. Following an ancient means of atonement, he and his wife will give LaRose to the grieving Ravich family. "Our son will be your son now, " they say.

Very good, interwoven stories through several generations which have always had a LaRose. The families are more than neighbors, the women are half-sisters who don't get along thus making this difficult situation even worse in trying to share the young LaRose between the families.

I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the author as reader. I've always like Erdrich. If you enjoy LaRose, check out The Round House too.

I really liked this book, the overall feel of the writing and especially the author reading the book. She put so much life and feeling into reading it aloud it made the book feel intimate and special, almost magical

Compelling characters and dialog that rings true, Native American life on a North Dakota Ojibwe reservation, gripping themes of tragedy and redemption - I can't say enough good things about this book!

Narration by the author Louise Erdrich adds sweetness and charm!
