Now a Major Motion Picture titled Whiskey Tango Foxtrot starring Tina Fey, Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Alfred Molina, and Billy Bob Thornton.

From tea with warlords in the countryside to parties with drunken foreign correspondents in the "dry" city of Kabul, journalist Kim Barker captures the humor and heartbreak of life in post-9/11 Afghanistan and Pakistan in this profound and darkly comic memoir. As Barker grows from awkward newbie to seasoned reporter, she offers an insider's account of the region's "forgotten war" at a time when all eyes were turned to Iraq. Candid, self-deprecating, and laugh-out-loud funny, Barker shares both her affection for the absurdities of these two hapless countries and her fear for their future stability.

Brilliant film and, although different, excellent book.

These explorations of the personal and political complexities of Afghanistan and Pakistan were funny and illuminating. The movie took a number of liberties but I enjoyed it as much as the book.

The author was able to maintain political neutrality which I would hope for in a journalist while illustrating the failure of local leaders and the international community in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

She also shows her personal growth in light of friendship and dating challenges in a war zone and vastly different culture.

I liked it for these reasons and for the clarity of her writing style

Not enjoyable at all. It played like a documentary and not a very good one. So disappointing as the "jacket" of the dvd pumped it up as "the best" and a comedy. I don't remember laughing at anything in this movie, much less smiling. Very disappointing.

Yet another mindless, witless, know-nothing yahoo of an American newsy who still hasn't - - and probably never will - - grasp the underlying agenda of American super-imperialism. [She actually believes America is trying to // get it right \\ - - what a hopeless fool!]
