Carefully culled from her past work, The Abundance is quintessential Annie Dillard, delivered in her fierce and undeniably singular voice, filled with detail and metaphysical fact. The pieces within will exhilarate both admiring fans and a new generation of readers, having been ́re-framed and re-hung, ́with fresh editing and reordering by the author, to situate these now seminal works within her larger canon.

Slim, but dense new collection of the great Annie Dillard's essays. The subtitle says "Narrative Essays Old and New," but all but one brief essay come from other books. Nature, spirituality (in a non-cheesy way), and perception are her enduring themes. This is probably the best single volume introduction to her work and will give the reader a good sense of which books to read next ("Pilgrim at Tinker Creek" for example.).
