I can't with good conscience recommend Anne McCaffery's work given her problematic and deeply hurtful views, which do permeate into her books. Much like Ender's Game, I recognize its place in science fiction's history; however, I think my recommendation space and energy could be used on better titles.

This is the first 3 novels of the Pern series. Aka, the first triliolgy of Pern is this book. Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and White Dragon. It is the best way to get all 3 novels at once and start your epic journey in the world of Pern.

I read the first of the Dragonrider books as a teenager and loved them, but the series has gotten really sprawling since then so I thought I'd offer my two cents worth on navigating your way through it. If you want to read the Pern series without wading through two dozen books full of different characters and timelines, the Dragonriders of Pern trilogy, Harper Hall trilogy and All the Weyrs of Pern will cover the heart of it for you. If you love the first couple of books so much you want to read the whole series, reading the books in the order they were first published is a safe way to go, although you could try following the internal chronology if you like. Be warned, though, that while most of the series is enjoyable and interesting, the quality varies widely, and you may want to skip the Todd McCaffrey books altogether.
