Gus Murphy, a retired cop, had everything a man could want: a great marriage, two kids, a nice house and the rest of his life ahead of him. But when his family is blown apart, he is transformed from a man who believes he understands everything into a man who understands nothing. Divorced and working as a courtesy van driver, ex-con Tommy Delcamino comes to him for help. Months earlier, TJ Delcamino's battered body was discovered and the police don't seem interested in finding the killers. In desperation, Tommy seeks out the only cop he ever trusted - Gus Murphy.

Reed Farrel Coleman has become another one of my favorite authors. I really enjoyed this character Gus Murphy and I look forward to reading about him again; maybe the next book. In the meantime, I will read some Moe Prager books by Reed Farrel Coleman.

I read some of Coleman's books writing as Robert B. Parker and liked the style--one that I hadn't been able to find since Parker died. But in "Where It Hurts," I sensed many of the things I liked about Parker and will be looking at earlier books by Coleman.

I checked out two books over the 4th. One was the Second Life of Nick Mason and the Where it Hurts.
Both were good. I would recommend Second life. However, Where it Hurts was so much richer. If you like Lee Child you will really like Where it hurts. I am going to look back at the other books Coleman has written. He is very good.

Surprisingly good read. Excellent character development, great main character and solid plot line. Looking forward to the next in the series. Well written.

I haven't read any other books by this author but this was great. The MC is a former cop dealing with the grief of losing his son. His life is on a downward slide when he begins to investigate a murder. For some reason the cops aren't really interested in solving it & this leads Gus to uncover a series of cover-ups that began 20 years ago.
Well written, intricate plot with a likeable, sympathetic main character. If this is the start of a new series, I'd definitely pick up the sequel.
