Very solid mystery. Narrator doesn't fall into the "sad, alcoholic, middle-aged detective" trope, and though the narrator is a dude, the POV is pretty female friendly in my opinion (a lot series are either boringly male centric, or overcompensate for the general maleness of the detective genre with cheesy stock "sexism" plots). The story has a good pace and I agree with other commenters that the plot isn't overly complicated, but engaging. The end killer is believable which is a big maker/breaker for me.

Outstanding!! Great characters and plot. Loved all the characters.

A good series that combines mystery with the outdoors and nature. I'm intrigued by the Appalachian Trail and its thru hikers so the setting in this episode really appealed to me. Mike seems to be maturing with each book and is starting to follow the rules and be more level headed. Looking forward to #7 in June.

This time Mike Bowditch is looking for two missing girls. He is also practising self control which does become him. I still recommend him after reading this, his 6th book. Still a good read.

This is the sixth book in the Mike Bowditch series. I have read everyone one of them. I highly recommend them.

Fast-paced and yet complex-but-not-convoluted mystery focused on solving the disappearance and murder of two women hiking a portion of the Appalachian Trail. Game warden Mike Bowditch is a great character, confident and smart and yet also unsure of himself. Readers will enjoy the various personalities -- most of them not so welcoming -- in this remote and worn-down corner of Maine.
