If I Stay was directed by RJ Cutler, and based off a book with the same name by Gayle Forman. It's a heart wrenching story of a young girl named Mia who follows her comatose self as she recovers from a car crash, while all her family dies around her. It's devastating to watch as it flips from her comatose state to the past, which eventually leads up to the car crash. It devastated me personally in multiple scenes, even to the point that it made me cry. I didn't like how it would jump from the past to the present, especially at the beginning when I had no idea what was going on. I thought the acting in the movie was very well done, and it truly added to the fact that it could happen to anyone, young or old. It kept you on the edge of your toes, as you had no idea if she was going to decide to follow the light to her death or keep fighting. The past also edges your anxiety as you watch her audition for her dream university and follow her relationship with her ex boyfriend. I thought the movie was very well done, tugging on all the appropriate heart strings, and making you feel for the character. There were the occasional bad parts of the movie, with the time jumps and the occasional cringe-worthy scenes, but I found that the good outweighed the bad in this movie. I'd give it a rating of 4/5.

I did not read the book, but I can see why this is the kind of movie that is more enjoyable without knowing much about the story line beforehand. The jumping back-and-forth in time line is actually okay, but it does require the audience to pay a bit more attention in watching and understanding what's going on.

The acting wasn't horrible, but I just couldn't get into the story I believe it to be focused towards a more teenage audience.

The movie did a good job of portraying the characters and following the book but it was a little confusing at times.

The story was told terribly. It was hard to follow, and it had an ending that ended in the middle of the story. And, on top of that, the adult content, the language, and wrong thinking made this movie a terrible one. Not at all recommended.

I found near the middle of the movie I got bored. There were a couple of scenes that were nice (e.g. the bonfire scene with the family and the ceiling scene). For me, the book had more impact.

The acting and structure of this film were just ok, but it packs a series of powerful emotional punches. The ending came sooner than I expected so the decision behind the title was actually not as difficult as it could have been.

I really wasn't all that impressed by the movie, especially after having read the book.
