A masterpiece. Splendidly filmed and acted. None of Day-Lewis' 3 Oscar-gathering endeavors are anywhere near as entertaining and as moving as this father-daughter drama. Camilla Belle is magnificent as Rose. Forget what the nay-sayers type; opponents of Ballad don't know what they're talking about. Having a soul is helpful for appreciating the warmth of Rebecca Miller's screenplay and direction. A man could not have created this movie. The story takes place on a northern island, a garden of Eden, and the serpents (Paul Dano, Beau Bridges) are at the door!!

Terrible, poorly acted movie with a boring story line. My reaction was "who cares"!

I actually did not watch the whole thing it was so bad. Apparently it was one of those movies where someone knew someone and owned them a favor and that was why it got made.

It also seemed to hint at incest.

I kept wonderling why Daniel Day-Lewis is playing the lead in this terrible amaturish movie, written and directed by Rebecca Miller. I see.... he did his wife (her dad is Arthur Miller) a favor. She got a good budget and wonderful actors, but her talent in filmmaking is not up to it.

A well made film with a sort of creepy premise. When the daughter (Camilla Belle) started competing with the girlfriend (Cat Keener) of her dad (Daniel Day-Lewis), I drew the line lol. Freaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaky!
