Sonny Lofthus, in his early thirties, has been in prison for the last dozen years: serving time for crimes he didn't commit. In exchange, he gets an uninterrupted supply of heroin--and the unexpected stream of fellow prisoners seeking out his uncanny abilities to soothe and absolve. His addiction started when his father committed suicide rather than be exposed as a corrupt cop, and now Sonny is the center of a vortex of corruption: prison staff, police, lawyers, a desperate priest--all of them focused on keeping him stoned and jailed, and all of them under the thumb of Oslo's crime overlord, the Twin.

Great book. Great read. Great characters. Is it ok to root for the Son on his vengeful rampage? Yes it is! Unethical? So, sue me. I was a bit scared what would happen in the end. But Hey! I got my wish. For once the 'baddies' got what they deserved and the hero gets to ride into the sunset... Just great.

I love all of Jo Nesbo's books, this was a stand-alone and it was riveting! The storyline kept me going and going and the character development kept you interested in each person's story! Fantastic read!

Stepping away from Detective Hole, Nesbo creates a character you want to see succeed.

Excellent plot and character descriptions. A thriller that makes you think about social issues. Very good translation.

Excellent roman policier qui présente en détails les aspects psychiques, psychologiques et physiques des personnages. L'action se déroule rapidement ce qui maintien l'intrigue à son maximum. Hautement recommandé.

I didn't enjoy this as much as the harry hole series. not as gripping.

An extremely violent, gritty, and dark thriller about corruption and revenge. Admittedly, I found this to be pretty far-fetched at times and the violence was hard to take, but I enjoyed the author’s writing style, the flawed characters, and the many twists and turns.

What a treat. I've been plowing through "important" non-fiction books for several dreary months of self-inflicted sell-improvement: this mesmerizing read took three days of sheer enjoyment. Call it summer reading or call it easy reading...it's a thoroughly well-crafted and engrossing story by a master of breathless Scandinavian-style cops and robbers adventures..

I've enjoyed everything this author has published, but this one is top notch. Couldn't put it down, very highly recommended to those who enjoy crime thrillers.
