This story is based on events which occurred in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Distraught by the sudden, tragic death of his wife, a journalist finds himself mysteriously drawn to a small West Virginia town when his car inexplicably strands him. He soon learns that many of the town's residents have been beset by bizarre events, including sightings of an eerie "moth-like" entity, an entity similar to the one seen by his late wife.

This was one of the least frightening and poorly plotted supernatural thrillers I have ever seen. Most of the action takes place over the phone, which can be scary, but isn't in this movie. I'm willing to put up with a fair bit, though, for a good pay-off, a really cool explanation for what is going on. Heck, I'll even fall for the old "built on an Indian burial ground" ploy. But this movie (spoiler alert, which I am willing to do in order to save you time if you hang on until the end in hopes of something good) want us to accept "Some things you're just not meant to understand.." as the big answer. REALLY! I mean, we follow this guy around as he chases after people who could possibly explain to him what this moth figure is and why it keeps appearing, and that is the full extent of the answer he comes up with. What a waste of time.

loaded w/intrigue this is a very good pseudo-sci-fi drama.

This will chill your blood. Slow, deliberate, terrifying. I watched this in a little theater in Pennsylvania one dark, cold night and believe me the irony was not missed. This story is gripping. In the theater there was not a sound from the audience. Everyone was transfixed and they left with a hush afterwords. You cannot watch this movie and not be scared. Even now this still effects me.

Good overall. I find the story moves along at a fair pace and keeps the viewer sufficiently engaged. This is a thriller without gore (except for one car accident scene which is not overtly offensive), and therefore I recommend it. I think if a director has to resort to graphic violence to evoke emotion from the viewer it is the sign of a week plot. As to the authenticity of the story, it would seem that artistic license rather than true facts have been applied here.

"WHEN did he call you, John?"
"....about an hour ago."
