And this, without embarrassment, I will say, IS my all-time favorite. Three words: Edward James Olmos.

I would rate seasons 1 and 2 at 5 stars, especially the miniseries that starts the first season off. Season 3 is probably like a 3.5 and then season 4 gets maybe 3 stars. Its worth checking out the whole series. I cared where the characters were going, for the most part, and having the ship be a character to some extent was fun too.

I expected more action sequences. This is a very character driven series.

Problem with this listing is that the DVDs are broken into two sets, but you need to be able to get set 1 first in order to be able to watch from the beginning.

On 5 DVD's this is Season One with a 4 hour mini series to kick it off, followed by 13 episodes. There is plenty of cheesecake with Tricia Helfer. Although this is supposedly sci fiction for adults, there is a comic book quality about the action sequences. Mary McDonnell is the best actor because she gives a nuanced performance, not one dimensional. Some of the commentary in the later episodes are a bore because the director and producers never tire of complimenting themselves.

I totally enjoyed this version. I had watched the first version many moons ago................and had enjoyed that. But this version is really entertaining and the characters are intriguing.

Just a comment for those that want to start from episode 1 that this is set 2 of season 1 (starts with ep 5) so if you want to start from ep 1 and the miniseries you need to take out set 1 of season 1.

I agree to a certain extent with Joanna--the resolution of the entire story is a weak point. If you listen to the commentary, it is apparent that much of the writing was done on the fly, and it sometimes shows. It would have been stronger if they had not improvised so much. And there are elements in the series which I could use less of--the whole Baltar-Six storyline was too much, the Opera House was bizzare, and the mysticism was just too heavy at times. Having said that, I think that the series breathed new life into science fiction and moved it away from the George Lucas school. Some episodes are great. The series explores issues in an intelligent and thought-provoking way. The characters are really human. The graphics are usually very good, and the battle scenes are more realistic than anything I've seen. If you like sci-fi, it's worth watching.

BSG has become my favorite show of all time. If you have not seen it you are missing out. It is completely different than the original and infinitely better. Season one starts a little slow but the show completely draws you in. It has been described as a space drama, which I usually don't enjoy drama at all, but this show has very well developed characters whom you grow to love (and some simultaneously hate). You may just find yourself starting with the fist episode and having to sit down and watch the entire season because you have to know what happens next. Great acting, great special effects, great story.
