And this, without embarrassment, I will say, IS my all-time favorite. Three words: Edward James Olmos.

I like scifi with explosions as much as the next nimrod, but THIS is science fiction for grownups who care about character development, and need more than a giant chase scene with lazy plot lines interspersed. You will come to care about these characters, even though some of them can be awfully hard to love, and the ones you love easily will do things that make you furious. That's what makes Battlestar Galactica more like real-life than probably any other sci-fi series.

I forgot how terrible this series was, until I started watching it again and was reminded.

If you've read Jack Campbell's work about a fleet of warships trapped behind enemy lines, then you'll know what I mean.

The premise is sound, but the execution was badly done.

I would rate seasons 1 and 2 at 5 stars, especially the miniseries that starts the first season off. Season 3 is probably like a 3.5 and then season 4 gets maybe 3 stars. Its worth checking out the whole series. I cared where the characters were going, for the most part, and having the ship be a character to some extent was fun too.

I expected more action sequences. This is a very character driven series.

A near-perfect season of television.

Problem with this listing is that the DVDs are broken into two sets, but you need to be able to get set 1 first in order to be able to watch from the beginning.

On 5 DVD's this is Season One with a 4 hour mini series to kick it off, followed by 13 episodes. There is plenty of cheesecake with Tricia Helfer. Although this is supposedly sci fiction for adults, there is a comic book quality about the action sequences. Mary McDonnell is the best actor because she gives a nuanced performance, not one dimensional. Some of the commentary in the later episodes are a bore because the director and producers never tire of complimenting themselves.

Now THIS is a sci-fi series worth watching. Even if you're not a sci-fi fan, chances are you'll be drawn as its a standout success in a number of different categories. I just completed season one of this critically-acclaimed series, and I hope seasons 2 to 4 maintain the same high standards.

I totally enjoyed this version. I had watched the first version many moons ago................and had enjoyed that. But this version is really entertaining and the characters are intriguing.

A fantastic remake of the cheesy 70s series, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was revamped with intriguing characters that you relate to ... not the usual cast of wackos from a futuristic galaxy far far away. Like a space soap opera, it's exciting sci-fi for the guys and meaningful character relationships for the gals. Meanwhile, the entire Galactica society is facing the threat of Cylon infiltration. Who are Cylons, you ask? They're people who look just like humans, but want to destroy the few remaining humans in the universe. When no one can really trust another for fear of a Cylon among them, people are pushed to the brink in the already stressful environment of life aboard the Galactica. The characters are well crafted and realistic, and my favourite is the complicated military miss, Starbuck. I highly recommend this series to most audiences, from preteens to senior citizens.
