As American tanks raced across France, one fact became immediately clear: One-on-one, the Sherman tank with its 75 mm main gun was no match for the more heavily armored and heavily-gunned German tanks that it faced across the battlefield. In order for the allied attack to maintain its momentum, the recovery and repair of damaged Shermans from the battlefield took the highest priority. America simply couldn't get new tanks to France fast enough to replace the combat losses caused by the Wehrmacht during its tenacious retreat. Recovery and repair was the job of Lieutenant Cooper and his crew of soldier-technicians: right up at the frontline, and sometimes even "in front" of the frontline.

Good.easy read from a man with great insight into us problems with armoured warfare in the eto. Hates the Sherman, hence the title. Pays little mind to independent tank and TD battallions. Thinks they were never trained enough. Strongly supports the heavy quad structure for the 3rd. Some minor religious comments. Funny guy.
