A really excellent miniseries from 1987 when British tv was still doing sumptuous productions with lavish details and casts of hundreds. The performances are incredibly good, not just Firth and Olivier but the supporting cast as well. The atmosphere is somewhat strained, dark and sinister, but it makes sense in the context of a world on the brink of a disastrous war.
Very slow start, but eventually very engaging. Colin Firth is always fascinating.
Tried it...but took a pass on this one..not my type of film.
