Set in the rugged beauty of the English countryside, this series begins with the arrival of James Herriot to the Yorkshire Dales in the late '30s. The newly qualified outsider from Scotland finds he still has much to learn if the country folk are ever to accept him as a vet on par with Siegfried Farnon, who established the Darrowby practice. As Herriot struggles with the native dialect, skeptical clients and ingrained rural superstitions, he must also learn how to weather the flare-ups between Siegfried and his younger brother, Tristan. Soon Herriot falls in love with Helen, a local farmer's daughter, only to suffer constant reminders that "the course of true love never did run smooth."

A TV series that is adapted from the book of the same title by author and veterinarian James Herriot. These stories that are loosely autobiographical and are must read/must view for all families and animal lovers. Each episode fill with humor and heartwarming stories of animals and their caretakers.

This series is a longtime favorite of mine. Watching it is relaxing, because you really lose yourself in the story. The acting is excellent, and the characters are original. This set of DVD's includes an interesting 1970's TV interview with author James Herriot.

Loved the whole series. Shows a British vet with his practice in a small town pre WWII, later post WWII. Warm, interesting stories of a vet going to local farms dealing with multi problem with quirky farmers. Also, small vet practice with lots of funny , sometimes sad stories. Filmed on location so you get to see parts of England.
