A John Ford classic. Like the other one I've seen (Fort Apache), magnificent scenery. This one was filmed in Moab, Utah (not at the Rio Grande). Interesting to see the views of those who made the movies in the late-1940's, especially with reference to Native Americans. Definitively a story from the US "Manifest Destiny" point of view. O'Hara and Wayne demonstrate their chemistry, which was part of what drove the popularity. I recommend viewing the bonus "Making of Rio Grande." Has interviews with some of the original actors.

Wow- I saw this movie when I was a kid, but it still holds up with some exciting action sequences and the typical John Ford humor evident throughout.
