This is one of my all time favorite movies that reminds me of my own life with my mother. The sequel is tremendous as well. I will not give away the plot but the library must get it in stock and I believe people will love it as well.

I saw the movie and I had liked it, this is based on a true story not for children to watch

It's easy to see why this film one the Academy Award, including Oscars for Shirley MacLaine and Jack Nicholson. Every single performance is outstanding. Have a tissue ready.

A little dated but the story is good, and Shirley MacLaine, Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson are all fantastic.

It's difficult to understand how this film could have won 5 Oscars. Thirty years later it comes across as a tedious melodrama that seems more appropriately suited for a TV soap opera series than a serious dramatic film. The acting seemed either wooden for Shirley MacLaine, a self-caricature for Jack Nicholson, or lifeless in the case of Debra Winger. Unless you want tiresome and cliched dialogue, a superficial treatment of family relationships, or maudlin heart on your sleeve emotions, fast forward.

A terrific film about the turbulence of a mother-daughter relationship (between Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger). Not only are both the lead actresses great, but so are the supporting actors, Jack Nicholson, Jon Lithgow, and Jeff Daniels. TERMS OF ENDEARMENT is serious and would most likely be categorized as a drama, but it has comic elements in healthy heapfuls. Not only is it heartfelt but it's entertaining. I would absolutely recommend it, but not for people who like primarily action flicks; it's simply not suiting to the tastes of someone with adventurous sensibilities.

Perfect in every way. Shirley MacLaine, Jack Nicholson, and Debra Winger are excellent in this story of rocky relationships, love and SPOILER! SPOILER! death.

Aurora and Emma are mother and daughter who march to different drummers. Beginning with Emma's marriage, Aurora shows how difficult and loving she can be. The movie covers several years of their lives as each finds different reasons to go on living and find joy. Aurora's interludes with Garrett Breedlove, retired astronaut and next door neighbor are quite striking. In the end, different people show their love in very different ways.
