Based on this one time read I can say I'm not a SB fan.

I’m a big fan of Steve Berry since I discovered his work a few years ago. His stories are very similar in nature to Dan Brown’s historical based action fiction (is there a name for that kind of work?). Anyway you will recognize the hero of the story as a reluctant protagonist who uncovers the mystery, saves the girl and defeats the bad guy. In this story that’s true once again. The character Cotton Malone is in every Steve Berry story I’ve read. Although I’d say in this one he doesn’t demonstrate any significant knowledge of his “treasure hunt”. That’s a little unusual, and he ends up just being an action hero and not much more. The story is around ancient secrets of China mixed with the political jockeying of the men lusting for power to be the next leader. The story is entertaining enough although it’s not my favourite of Berry’s books. Since this was an audio book I should say the narrator is the one used for his previous stories and he does a decent job of it. So if you’re a fan of Berry’s it worth a look, if you’ve never read his books before I might recommend the Charlemagne Pursuit, but that’s just because it was the first book I read that got me hooked on Berry’s stories.
