Eat, fidget, pray, yawn, love, sleep ZZZZZzzzzzzz. Boring, self-indulgent, not recommended. Maybe the book is better?

I found this movie quite boring and hard to watch. I have read the book and loved it, however the movie just wasn't able to keep my attention.

I know not everyone loves Julia Roberts but I really enjoyed this film. Based on Elizabeth Gilbert's book by the same title, this film will take you around the world as the author, played by Roberts, tries to learn how to forgive herself, find peace with her life, and ultimately happiness. I'm a big fan of travel anything and thought this film was gorgeous and made me hungry for authentic Italian pasta; wishing I had more color in my life like there is in India; and craving a trip to the beaches of Bali. It's a great chick-flick.

A goofy, immature who-am-I search by a woman who is old enough to be beyond such teen-age nonsense.

This movie was surprisingly faithful to the book in the storyline. However, much of the book is about what goes on in Liz's head and, although some of that comes through, most of it doesn't. The book has some lovely passages, especially in the Italian section, about the place and importance of pleasure in life and these didn't make it to the screen. This movie is perhaps a rare case of it being more interesting if you have already read the book. By reading the book, you get the details about her motivation and her psychological and emotional journey. This background gives the movie some depth, makes it much more interesting and is probably why I enjoyed it more than some of the other reviewers did. Without it, the movie is just an entertaining romance story - but still a nice movie.
