Hollywood has sent its emissaries to New Iberia Parish to film a Civil War epic in the steaming mists of the Louisiana bayou -- reawakening the ghosts of a past best left undisturbed. The restless specters wait in the shadows for cajun cop Dave Robicheaux -- as he hunts a serial butcher who is preying on the less-then-innocent young. For these spirits are the guardians of Robicheaux's darkest torments -- and they hold the key to his ultimate salvation...or a final, fatal downfall.

My first book by this author. I found it only OK. Too much time indulging in "supernatural" "vision" "ghost vision" stuff, which I found not interesting in the slightest.

The author seemed to have some skills, but the plot was totally over the top and the "ghost vision" stuff consumed way, way, way, way too much of the book.

I'll probably try another book or two from this author at some point, but this book didn't create any pressing desire to do so.

Burke is a very good writer but used too much metaphor and dream like sequences in what should have been a straight forward plot. I really like his flawed Robicheaux and his locales.

While a big Hollywood studio prepares to film a Civil War epic in the Louisiana bayou, a serial killer is running rampant, praying on prostitutes. Cajun police detective Dave Robicheaux is drawn into the puzzle, and begins to see links between the killings, the death of a notorious Louisiana mobster, and an unsolved murder that Robicheaux himself witnessed thirty-five years ago.
