Letters From Mir
An Astronaut's Letters to His SonBook - 2003
Jerry Linenger's five months aboard the Space Station Mir were anything but calm. They included a major fire, malfunctioning computer systems, and lost electrical and cooling power, among other things. He was literally cut off from the world, and more than that, he was cut off from his wife and young son. Linenger originally began writing to his son so that later in life he would know what his father was thinking while he was travelling in space for five months. However, after the fire that nearly killed the astronauts aboard the station, his letters became deeper emotionally. As well as recounting the details of the day, he sought to tell his son of the unlimited love he had for him, as well as his hopes for his son's future.
