In "American on Purpose, " Craig Ferguson delivers a moving and achingly funny memoir of living the American dream as he journeys from the mean streets of Glasgow, Scotland, to the comedic promised land of Hollywood. Along the way he stumbles through several attempts to make his mark--as a punk rock musician, a construction worker, a bouncer, and, tragically, a modern dancer.

A delightful read. Of course, I was already a Craig Ferguson fan, but only knew him from the Late, Late Show...which he discusses in the final two chapters. The rest of the book is his honest reflection on his life and the many things he got involved in (drugs, punk bands, comedy, to name a few) before settling behind the desk of his show.

The candid and literate memoir of one of late-night TV's funniest characters.
Laugh with Ferguson at his attempt to be a modern dancer, cry with him at his attempt at suicide. You will not find a bad review of this book in existence. It's Great!

Very sad but yet very entertaining. Also that there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

A good book by the Scotsman turned American on his childhood and his addictions, and his music days and his start in the stand-up comedy, turned actor, turned late-night TV host.
In the end, he decided to become an American the right way. He studied and took the test and was sworn in! Too bad more people don't do this.
As he says, "My heart is Scottish, but my soul is American! " Bravo.

Don't usually read these kinds of books but had to read this one. Loved it! Gives me a deeper respect and interest in one of my favorite comedians and late show hosts.

Compelling, witty, and funny. You get an all access pass to the mind of one of the best talk show host on TV. Craig is a great writer as each chapter conveys clearly his state of mind at that moment in time. A must read, especially for his Late Late Show fans.

Phenomenal. One of my favorite books ever. Craig Ferguson is not only hilarious, witty, and smart, but he is also one damn good writer. Thank God the drugs didn't get him, we got him instead. Great talent is too often wasted.
Oh, and if you haven't seen the Late Late Show, I suggest you check it out. It's worth it.
