The reader, Arthur Morey is a favorite, but even he couldn't keep me interested. For me it was like reading the highlights of 20th C history with a lot of 'stuff' I just didn't care for.

Book about the Collyer brothers who were hoarders.

Booktraveler Aug 30, 2011

I read this book with mild interest mostly because I know someone who has hoarder tendencies. It was interesting to see how the illness progressed from small innocuous steps like collecting newspapers to having duplicates (many times over) of items like pianos and typewrites for the spare parts to storing an old car in the middle of your dinning room. This all spiraled out of control until the brothers had totally lost touch with reality. During the book discussion for this book however I learned that many of the basic facts about the Collyer brothers and family had been modified for no apparent reason by the author. The order of the brothers, which one was blind, when their parents died all of these basic facts were modified. The timeline of the brother’s life was also stretched for some unknown reason. There is enough misinformation out there without intentionally creating more. Even though this book is listed as a Novel you would assume the basic research done by the author regarding the time period, primary characters etc. would be based on fact. Not so! I would NOT recommend this book to anyone.

An excellent reading of this deeply emotional story. The narrator is superb.
