This movie is so clever and funny. It was well cast, the music is great, and the jokes hit for both grownups and kids. Saw it six times in theaters when it was originally released so it comes highly recommended from me!

So funny and silly. Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy were great!

Not my childhood fables with all the all the cliches upended.
Loved the nods to theme parks, professional wrestling, the Matrix, & cliched torture scene.
Very naughty movie ,but highly recommended for all ages.

This movie is a fan favorite all around, for its wonderful tale and loveable characters. Shrek is an ogre who lives in a swamp and is very happy as is. However, Lord Farquaad has banished all the fairy tale creatures to this swamp, in turn invading Shrek’s home. Shrek makes a deal with the Lord to rescue Princess Fiona in return for his swamp. Along the way, he encounters Donkey and many more mythical creatures that make his adventure that much more challenging. Not to mention, Fiona is hiding a secret that may jeopardize the deal between Shrek and Lord Farquaad. This film has everything from love, to laughter, to pure honesty and vulnerability which makes it such an incredible movie. I would rate this 5/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who loves the band Smash Mouth or who appreciates an unlikely happy ending. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library

Shrek one is one of the greatest movies by DreamWorks Disney that exists. This movie is about a disliked ogre that becomes friends with the donkey, princess and many other fictional characters along the way. Shrek can't stop getting in many sticky situations that involves break ups of friendships, marriages and so much more! Shrek Two was a great movie and I would recommend it to every family that needs something to watch when they're bored. It is hilarious and uplifting and in the end you feel like you're filled with joy because the movie was very sweet. I think everyone should watch this movie and if you haven't already you need to immediately. It is a Disney classic and you will surely not be disappointed! I would rate this movie a 5/5.

The movie "Shrek" had one big life lesson and that is don’t judge a book by its cover. Everyone thought Shrek was a big, stupid and ugly ogre. But in reality Shrek has feelings just like everyone else. The part that really shocked me was when the sun sets and the princess also turns into an ogre. I was not expecting that plot twist at all. Also, Donkey was the first one to tell Shrek that he likes Shrek which made Shrek realize that not everyone hates an ogre. I think Donkey and Shrek make a great team together, even though sometimes Shrek gets annoyed by Donkey's constant talking. Overall, this movie was amazing, funny, and contains good life lessons.

As one of the most memorable movies of the 2000's, this movie was a hit among kids. It seems like a modern fairy tale. We are introduced to the popular ogre, Shrek, and the equally popular Donkey, whose name is just Donkey. Donkey serves to humour the audience many times with his funny remarks. The animation is great for a movie from over a decade ago. Shrek is tasked with the job of rescuing Fiona, the girl who Lord Farquaad is in love with. If he is able to do that, he will get his swamp back. The problem is that there is a dragon lurking around the tower that Fiona is in. Will Shrek be able to rescue Fiona, or will he be subdued by the dragon?

Donkey: ...And then one time I ate some rotten berries. Man, there were some strong gases seepin' outta my butt that day!

Donkey: Whoa, Shrek, did you do that? Man, you gotta warn somebody before you crack one like that, my mouth was open and everything!

Shrek: Donkey, if that was me, you'd be dead!

Shrek: That's brimstone... we must be getting close.

Donkey: Yeah, right, brimstone. Don't be talking about no brimstone. I know what I smelled, it wasn't no brim and it didn't come off no stone neither...

Lord Farquaad: [to his knights] The winner of this tournament - no, no, the privilege - will have the honour of rescuing the beautiful Princess Fiona from the fiery pit of that dragon! Should the winner fail to return, the runner-up shall take his place, and so on and so forth... Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.

Donkey: I'll find those stairs. I'll whip their butt, too. Those stairs won't know which way they're going... take drastic steps, kick it to the curb. Don't mess wit' me. I'm the Stair Master. I've mastered the stairs. I wish I had a step right here, right now, I'd step all over it...

Donkey: So where is this fire-breathin' pain in the neck, anyway?

Shrek: Inside, waiting for us to rescue her.

Donkey: I was talkin' about the dragon, Shrek.

Donkey: Oh, you both have LAYERS. Oh. You know, not everybody like onions. CAKE! Everybody loves cake! Cakes have layers!

Shrek: I don't care what everyone likes! Ogres are not like cakes.

Donkey: You know what ELSE everybody likes? Parfaits! Have you ever met a person, you say, "Let's get some parfait," they say, "Hell no, I don't like no parfait."? Parfaits are delicious!

Shrek: NO! You dense, irritating, miniature beast of burden! Ogres are like onions! End of story! Bye-bye! See ya later.

Donkey: Parfait's may be the most delicious thing on the whole damn planet!

Donkey: [looks at a hovel] Whoa. Look at that. Who'd wanna live in a place like that?

Shrek: That, would be my home.

Donkey: Oh... and it is LOVELY! You know, you're really quite a decorator. It's amazing what you've done with such a modest budget. I like that boulder. That is a NICE boulder.

LiztheLibrarian Jan 25, 2018

Donkey: We can stay up late, swapping manly stories, and in the morning, I'm making waffles!

Jan 22, 2018

[Shrek enters the tournament]

Lord Farquaad: What's that? It's hideous!

Shrek: Well, that's not very nice.

[looks at Donkey]

Shrek: It's just a donkey.

Shrek, a grouchy, mean, selfish green ogre that has always enjoyed living in peaceful solitude in his swamp, finds his life disrupted when numerous fairytale beings, including Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs, and Donkey, are forced into the swamp by order of the obsessive, perfectionistic, fairy-tale despising Lord Farquaad. Shrek leaves the swamp to ask Farquaad for the return of his privacy, with Donkey happily tagging along. Meanwhile, Farquaad tortures the Gingerbread Man into revealing the whereabouts of the remaining fairytale creatures until his guards rush in with an object Farquaad has been searching for: the Magic Mirror. The Mirror tells him that Farquaad can only become a real king by marrying a princess (completely disregarding his original question regarding if his kingdom was the fairest of them all). The Mirror gives him three princesses to choose from (in a parody of The Dating Game): Cinderella, Snow White, and Princess Fiona. Farquaad chooses Fiona and silences the Mirror before he can mention "the little thing that happens at night" (which is later revealed to be a curse). Shrek and Donkey arrive at Farquaad's palace in Duloc, where they find themselves in the midst of a tournament. The winner will have the "privilege" of attempting to rescue Fiona from a castle surrounded by lava and protected by a fire-breathing dragon so that Farquaad may marry her. Shrek (with some help from Donkey) easily beats the other knights in a fashion that resembles a wrestling match and Farquaad agrees to remove the fairytale creatures from the swamp if Shrek rescues Fiona.
