Former cop Dave Robicheaux has lived through too much inner turmoil and seen too much of man's dark side to believe that there are any surprises left for him in this world. But the devastation brought by Hurricane Katrina seems to make a wreck of his soul even as it pummels New Orleans. In the aftermath, two black men are murdered in the ninth ward--and Robicheaux refuses to allow another injustice to pile more misery on the survivors of this deadly storm.

I am absolutely hooked on James Lee Burke, especially the audiobooks read by Will Patton. This title is about New Orleans right after Katrina, and Burke hits his usual notes of the dark, the hidden and the hopeful.
