A ferry filled with crewmen from the USS Nimitz and their families is blown up in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. BATF Doug Carlin is brought in to assist in the recovery of evidence from the massive investigation, and gets attached to an experimental FBI surveillance unit. The unit uses technology to directly look back in time a little over four days into the past. While tracking down the bomber, Carlin gets an idea in his head: would it be possible to use the device to actually travel back in time and not only prevent the bombing but also the murder of a local woman whose truck was used in the bombing?

Deja vu is about time travel to catch a bomber. It takes place in present day New Orleans, where many victims were killed when a ferry was bombed. Denzel Washington plays an FBI agent assigned to investigate the explosion. He falls in love with the corpse of one of the victims and eventually is willing to sacrifice himself to restore her to life. Val Kilmer is a government specialist who shows Washington how to prevent the bombing in the past by manipulating physics. The movie kept my attention until the final half hour. Deja vu never managed to excite me, even during the chase scene. It is a slick film with good dialogue and cinematography, but the producers seem to have realized halfway through making the movie they could not afford to properly finish it. 3/5 stars

Fantastic story, great acting, action-smaction, will not need to bend the mind too much to follow. As the Librarian told me when checked it out- it's a wild ride. Maybe a bit too close to reality - if someone accidently learns to cross certain bridges of physics. The story (here) of which probably is an indicator of effort put into just that.
Upon hearing certain words spoken by a key character, I thought the story would continue into a "surprise" 2nd phase, but I'm now guessing that didn't happen due to mid-production realization that it would have caused the film to run well over time and budget constraints -- but perhaps a sequel, born out of that and the "bridging" aspect, lurks in the minds behind this film (?) Or, two very active character roles (from the original story) were (mostly) compressed into one for the film story - possibly breaking a rule or two in that process, depending on the details of that bridging aspect, whereas is likely none were broken in the more complex original story. [Besides, not only do interesting theories make for great stories, but so too can stories make for interesting theories.]

It was very intriguing. I very much enjoyed it. We did not need to see her getting changed and that. There was some brief nudity that was not mentioned on the rating on the case. Some brief un-necessary language. Recommended.

The first half of this movie is excellent. Loved the whole concept, very well done. The second half the movie gets boring. Overall entertaining.

Interesting, yet, hard to accept premise. Well-acted. Great cinematography. Very engaging. Good special effects.

I really love this movie - such a cool concept! Saw it in the theatre, never gets old. Good plot, well written, great cast. Great timing, you can feel the sense of destiny & inevitability as it speeds to the conclusion.

Another terrific action packed thriller with Denzel. Love the setting of New Orleans and the Misssissippi Delta.

Pretty straightforward Denzel Washington/Tony Scott fare. It would've been nice to see Val Kilmer and Jim Caviezel not so underutilized. Probably the most (unintentionally) amusing thing about it was that my wife could not decide for the first half hour or so whether or not she had already seen it, provoking ironic guffaws on my part. In the end, entertaining but not life-altering.
