As a boy a young Bruce Wayne watched in horror as his millionaire parents were slain in front of his eyes. This trauma led him to become obsessed with revenge. After disappearing to the East where he seeks counsel with a ninja cult leader, he returns to his now decaying Gotham City. The City is now overrun by organized crime and dangerous individuals manipulating the system. The discovery of a cave under his mansion, and a prototype armoured suit leads him to take on a new persona. He becomes Batman and strikes fear into the hearts of men who do wrong. With the help of rising cop Jim Gordon, Batman sets out to take down the various criminal schemes that have been set in motion by individuals such as mafia don Falcone, the twisted doctor/drug dealer Jonathan 'The Scarecrow' Crane, and a mysterious third party that is quite familiar with Wayne and waiting to strike when the time is right.

Liam Neeson is about the meanest martial arts mentor I've ever seen none of this Grasshopper stuff. I'm a big fan of the classic comics and I much prefer the 1939 Batman. In the very first Batman origins story Bruce uses barbells to become so strong no broadswords involved. It doesn't mention Bruce going anywhere; but since it does say he studied Jujitsu possibly he went to Japan.
My biggest criticism of this movie is that Bruce's mother really should have been given more lines; she just smiles approvingly while his dad imparts some the Wayne wisdom upon him.

Excellent Batman film.

The first movie to really explore the origins of Batman, and it nails it.

Love the humor, love between Alfred, the butler and Bruce Wayne. This movie is has action, sentiment, sadness and sinisterness.
I also thought fairly good acting & visual effects. Enjoyable for most movie watchers.

This film is a savior for the character of Batman. The definitive origin story of how Bruce Wayne became a masked vigilante. Executes the main theme of fear exceptionally well.

Good movie. The first of three with Christian Bale as Batman. Still one of the best batman films in my opinion.

Ok movie. Besides the language, worth a watch.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: There's some dark scenes, a few slightly scary ones, but it's not too bad if you're mature.
