Why do the storks no longer come to the little Dutch fishing village of Shora to nest? It was Lina, one of the six schoolchildren who first asked the question, and she set the others to wondering. And sometimes when you begin to wonder, you begin to make things happen. So the children set out to bring the storks back to Shora. The force of their vision put the whole village to work until at last the dream began to come true.

The adventure begins with a question: Why do the storks no longer come to their small Dutch fishing village of Shora? The children of the village decide to investigate and to bring the storks back. Yet little do they know that they will not only bring about the return of the storks, but they will also bring their community closer together. Winner of the Newberry Medal in 1954. A delightful "feel-good" book!

I'm not much of an animal person so I didn't know what to think about a book about storks but from the first chapter I was sucked in! I wanted the children to succeed and get storks! I also love that that was not the only point to this book and there were several hidden lessons along the way about community and friendship.
