For a state whose name is "mountain", Montana shows thousands of miles of level prairie. I've read that if all of the space within the atoms of the earth were pressed out, the planet would have a diameter of three hundred twenty-eight feet -- not even the distance of a good major league homerun. I don't know whether it's possible to believe that figure, but I do know if you're driving across Montana you'll never believe it.

I had an aneurism removed, and I just ain't the man I was. I can abide that, but take you, you're a stranger, and all you see is a seventy-six-year-old man. I wasn't always like this. That's what hurts -- people forget what you been.

Or maybe the popalation got scared by them mouse spearmints wheres they give a mouse a needle-shot of a substance ever day until he dies a cancer. Nosir, my advice is to life your life.

She came back with grape jelly. In a land of quince jelly, apple butter, apricot jam, blueberry preserves, pear conserves, and lemon marmalade, you always get grape jelly.

My favorite travel book of all time, Blue Highways is a fascinating glimpse into the America that so many of us never see. The people he meets and the places he goes will stay with you long after you have finished the book. I am still on the lookout for a 5 calendar cafe!

The author embarks on a journey, circumnavigating the USA in his van. Sticking to the secondary highways, he encounters an America that may no longer exist. A thoughtful and highly readable travelogue.
