It happened in a flash. One minute Beth Cappadora wa the happily married mother of three. The next minute, one of them, her favorite child, three-year-old Ben, was missing. Was he kidnapped? No one knew, and as minutes lengthened into hours, days, weeks, months, years, even the woman police officer obsessed with the case gave up hope. So began the slow-motion nightmare for Beth, for her family, for everyone involved in the ultimate testing of the ties that bind people together and the wounds that tear them apart. But suddenly something so unexpected happens, it changes everything. This stunning novel plumbs the depths of one family's pain and hope, evoking love's risks and rewards.

I've just begun my mission of trying to read all the books on Oprah's Book Club list & this was her first pick. I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe if I read as fast as she does I could feel the flow of it but because I am a relatively slow reader (thanks to my 10 month old) I didn't feel the "oomph" or the "wow" that should make a Book Club list. It started out without any profanity and then one of the author's youngest characters just started throwing it around, which wasn't totally necessary. The book was ok or just average in my humble opinion. I will see if Oprah & I have similar tastes in books as I move on to book #2 on her list.
