Caught in the middle, the chief turns to Lucas Davenport for help, and reluctantly, he agrees. Still recovering from his near-fatal wounds of the year before, tying for once in his life to settle down with one woman, Lucas has his own concerns, but something about this murder, and another like it--the body found in the dumpster this time--teases him, and the more he looks into them, the more he's sure the investigtor is right. There is something disconcertingly familiar about the wounds not only in these two cases, but just maybe in several others as well. Somewhere out there lurks a killer of unusual skill and savagery. And it Lucas is right, he's just getting warmed up.....

Disappointing for the most part. The story took a long time to develop. I didn't like the chapters from the villain's perspective and found them distracting. Even so, I'm looking forward to his next book.

Another very good 'Prey' novel. The outcome of both investigations was spot on.

Lucas Davenport #6. Davenport is after another serial killer. This time he's saddled with two additional investigators that aren't making his life any easier.

In Sandford's Top Five of Lucas Davenport mysteries - - compact and interesting weaving of the bad guy and the unwinding of the story.
