Meet Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie's opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey.

She's a product of the "burg," a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.

Now Stephanie's all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad's, doing her best to sever the world's longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.

One for the Money is now a major motion picture starring Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum and Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Mazur.

I borrowed this book because the series was so highly rated on the Internet. I was looking forward to finding another author to read. However I only read the first 10 pages of this book. Stephanie is molested at age 6 by an 8 yr old boy. This same boy takes advantage of her as a teenager. In retaliation, she hits him with her car. This is all supposed to be funny, but I found it terribly sad. There was far too much profane language and ugly concepts even in the first 10 pages. I crossed Evanovich off my list of authors to read.

The first book in Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, and my first Janet Evanovich read. This was a pretty decent book; it's a mystery, but for the most part, it doesn't read like a formulaic mystery: murder, clues, resolution. It reads more like a book about Stephanie's life, and her new job as a bounty hunter and all the dangers that go along with that.
No, it's not "classical literature", but it was a fun read and I'll probably read at least a couple more from the series.

I laughed so hard reading this that I had an asthma attack--and it was worth it. This is the novel that made Janet Evanovich a best-selling author. Stephanie Plum, having lost her job buying lingerie, takes a job as a bounty hunter. She is incompetent, but lucky and spunky. Cop Joe Morelli is one of the world's hottest heroes. Dinners with Stephanie's family are bizarrely funny, Enjoy!

saw the movie - decided to read the book. It's a good mystery, with enough physical chemistry between the 2 main characters to keep the mystery from getting too serious. I look forward to reading more of this series of books.

If you are looking for a light and funny beach read, this series about the (mis)adventures of novice bounty hunter Stephanie Plum may be just the thing for you.

Saw the movie first, thought it was pretty funny and well done, the book seems to be the same. More details in the book, more 'cases' and you can see the growth of Plum a bit better.
Get the next one too!

Totally fun, light easy reading. First in Stephanie Plum series. Fashion is a little dated since book first published in 1994 but plot whisks along and romantic tension with old flame Joe Morelli is adorable.

This is a bit of an unusual series in that the heroine is not the most intelligent or brave or fast person you could meet. She's normal... in an abnormal sort of way. LOL Her family are funny, although they don't think so, and she gets frustrated with them very often. Her cop "love interest" is not someone you'd want your daughter to be dating, unless you didn't know his past history with said daughter. She's someone I could like and befriend in real life... just quirky enough to be fun.

Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum tries to bring in ex-cop Morelli with whom she was once involved romantically. Got to like Stephanie's courage and the humorous situations she finds herself in. However it's hard to believe that she can't nab this guy who she keeps running into.

This book was a lot of fun to read. I have already seen the movie several times so I had an idea of what was supposed to happen but reading the book definitely gives you more character background than the movie does. I am glad that I saw the movie first though because it was cast really well. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

A recently-laid off woman is down to her last few dollars. She's hocked everything she has and is forced to work for her bail bondsman uncle as a bounty hunter just to buy groceries. The story follows her exploits at learning the business while tracking a most uncanny bond-skipper. In the interim, she meets up with some really inscrutable characters.

This series is about about a woman bounty hunter, her co-workers, foes, friends, and family. Often you can relate to her misadventures, other times they are so out there you know they can't really be true, but you laugh anyway.
