Good grief! It makes me sick that I wasted my time even reading this, and they taught us in high school that even if you didn't like a book, it was still worth reading because it earned the respect to get published. How?! I agree with a…

I, like many others, had read "Where'd You Go, Bernadette?" and was expecting the same quirkiness and style from this book as well. Unfortunately, this book did not deliver. The main character is one of the most unlikeable characters ever.…

I enjoyed this quirky novel.

This fictional biography, told in flashbacks experienced in one day of Eleanor's life, involves a mystery concerning her husband. Although this was to be part of our current reading project, my wife found the telling too choppy to follow.…

I had high hopes for this book after reading Where'd You Go Bernadette?, but it was kind of all over the place.

The protagonist Eleanor Flood is a well crafted complex character. At the start of the book, I was thoroughly annoyed by her disdain for others and the bemoaning of what seemed like trivial problems in a privileged life. But as clues are…

Today will be Different by Maria Semple is a fast-paced, adventurous, fun read. It is full of strong characters, edgy humour, crazy plot twists and delightfully descriptive text that immerse you in Seattle, New Orleans, and Aspen. In the…

For those of us who know what it is like to have a semi-stream-of-consciousness day, to be less the person we want to be and more the person we don't, and to realize that facing what we don't want to see is a necessary part of healing.

She had me laugh out loud a few times. Requires attention. Enjoyed most of it.

After 75 pages I quit reading. She's hard to read. She writes these witty sentences full of angst, wit, etc but doesn't ever write sentences that are just plain readable. If that makes sense. It's like reading sentence after…

I just have to be honest and say: this is the worst book I have ever read. As many others have said, the main character is unrelatable, unsympathetic, and really just a horrible person. In general, I do not enjoy books about people who…

Within a few pages, I could tell this isn't for me. She really likes to bash any one who isn't atheist. Which I get. To each their own, but the character seemed close-minded to a fault. And agreeing with the below comments, the main…

This was my first time reading this author, so perhaps that is why I do not have as such a harsh review for this book as some others have here. I found it light and entertaining, and read it all one Sunday. The books takes place all in one…

The writing style is very entertaining and the main reason I stuck with the book. Unfortunately the main character is so self centered that it's all about her and no lessons are learned. To the point, SPOILER ALERT, that the 'beloved'…

I loved "Where'd Ya Go, Bernadette?" but this book was just terrible. It was hard to care about any of the characters, and the ending was completely unexpected, and also unsatisfying. I hope Maria Semple's next work is much better!

Interesting idea, writer has promise (in the style of Marian Keyes, Holiday, or Leap Year), but name/location dropping on every page is unnecessary at best, annoying/outdated at worst. Also: Costco is nowhere near downtown. If you're a…

Semple’s frenetic Today will be Different perhaps suffered in that it was digested immediately after Foer’s seven course Here I am. There were similarities in style: both left me in awe of the author’s imaginative word play and timing. But…

I really loved "Where'd You Go Bernadette?" and after reading some of the reviews, held back from having high expectations. Overall, WYGB is a much more thought out and written book. It's entertaining to read her quips regarding…

I read this but if I were you, don't bother. Eleanor is snarky throughout the whole book--her comments are bitchy. The only redeeming or interesting part was the relationship with her sister; the ending was even dumber.

I liked Where’d You Go, Bernadette much better. Eleanor Flood just seems scattered and ditzy as the story peels back the layers of her life.

Majority of these comments are accurate. First half of book was....'wait, what?' Second half pieced everything together more or less. Reader has to remember this is all in one day. The outcome of 'Joe' was odd. 'Timby' was quite…

This book was so good.. until the last 5 pages. I am still questing the ending!! Without giving anything away, I wish there was more content provided on the characters. Oh, and the ending with her husband = not believable, even for someone…

I wanted to give this book at least 3 stars (liked it) but could only truthfully say it was just ok. The first part was enjoyable but by the time I got to the middle I was forced to re-read sections because I couldn't piece together what I…

Should'a, could'a, would'a. Should have been more organized in plot. Could have depended less on creative, funny writing and more on story. Would have concluded the novel with different reason for husband's escapade which I think was…
